Poggiorsini, pure water country and wild orchids.

We are in the province of Bari, more accurately Poggiorsini. A small, quiet town known for its rich geological basin and the natural beauty of the Alta Murgia National Park. Situated on a hill, enjoys a strategic position for the proximity to places from historical and environmental interest Matera, Altamura, Gravina and Trani. A beautiful resort in Puglia in the past of the Orsini family feud, which it takes its name. One of the many small historic and scenic villages that bear witness to the Italian Memory. Place to preserve and rediscover not to lose our identity.

strong point of the country is the “belvedere” located just outside the small historic center. A panoramic terrace that sweeps up the Basilicata that allowed me to enjoy the beautiful autumn colors of the earth in all its nuances. A territory – to Poggiorsini and the surrounding municipalities – so impressive to become a film set for the film “Last Paradise” Riccardo Scamarcio, and actually shooting the film “Mother” written and directed by Antonio Costa. But not only ... in Gravina di Puglia, archaeological-naturalistic town, were filmed some scenes of 'No time to die', 25the James Bond film franchise th.

Another area of very charming territory is that of Alta Murgia National Park, 68.000 hectares of vast hilly areas and stony interspersed with oak woods and conifers, and the presence of eighty varieties of wild orchids which better flowering is concentrated in April. Inside it is clearly visible the medieval Castle Garagnone (1048), a stronghold inserted into a castellare federiciano system, that at that time it connected the fortifications present on the Alta Murgia each other in order to report the arrival of enemies. A place for safeguarding the territory of the Knights Hospitaller, warrior monks belonging to the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, guarding the passage of food resources and protected the pilgrims in the Holy Land. You should visit with experienced guides to the lack of marked trails, but also not to bump unexpectedly in herds of wild boars. Social animals of peaceful disposition that become aggressive if they feel threatened, or if you feel a threat to their cubs. An emergency – that of the uncontrolled proliferation of wild boars – subject from time to containment actions, alas still inadequate, involving many Italian natural areas from north to south.

Behind that apparent tranquility that then and there I perceived in Poggiorsini, there is a swarm of young entrepreneurial initiatives aimed at encouraging tourism and food and wine tours. New levers of the 80s and 90s that, after being formed, They are working 'together' for sustainable development that enhances the local resources. Among these there is one in particular: l 'spring water. Thanks to its quality properties tested and certified by the University of Pisa is bottled, but not only ... It is in an advanced stage of the project a rural health center based on the therapeutic benefits of thermal waters and herbs of the high Murgia.

A water of high quality is also a key ingredient for a good craft beer. A production that is increasingly popular and that gave birth to the little two Poggiorsini craft breweries: Social Brewery Alta Murgia – SPAM,  Social brewery that promotes access to employment of persons with disabilities, and Brewery of Ostuni, founded in an old cinema.

You can not write about a city without mentioning its cuisine. That traditional murgese is very rich and varied, and it is based on the spontaneous products of the earth as the fungus Cardoncello, protagonist in the tables, but not abusive flavors. Do not miss the wonderful dairy products and the typical fresh handmade pasta. With the approach of the Christmas season, however, the desire to taste traditional desserts is felt more than ever. A Poggiorsini thanks to the expert hands of Giusy Cantore, fourth generation of master bakers of Bakery Cantore, I had the pleasure to watch the preparation of Sasanelli, sweet spicy Murge made with almonds and cooked wine entered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in the list of Foodstuffs (PAT). Here's how to prepare.

Impastare 500 grams of flour sifted with 30 grams of unsweetened cocoa, 200 milliliters of fig vincotto, 10 grams of ammonia for cakes, 250 grams of toasted and chopped almonds in Toritto (typical Apulian), 125 grammi di zucchero, 100 ml of good extra virgin olive oil, grated lemon, cinnamon and clove powder. After obtaining a homogeneous mixture of putting spoonfuls onto a greased and floured baking pan, and bake for 15 minutes of a 160 degrees.

An idea greedy for a Merry Christmas tradition.

My twelve-step Firenze… Art and taste

Few remember that Florence – from 1865 to the 1871 – It was the capital of Italy. I must admit that after having visited it deserves I understand better the reasons. Really exciting to see his masterpieces ... if it were not for the long queues! Yes, endless queues that the cold of early January has certainly not helped! D’altronde, or rather fortunately, let's talk about one of the four Italian cities most visited in the world that offers a steady flow of tourists throughout the year. A place where you breathe art everywhere, who gave birth to great artists known around the world. One among them is Leonardo Da Vinci (15 April 1452 – 2 May 1519) Italian genius who in May this year will be celebrated the fifth centenary of his death.

"Learning never tires the mind." Leonardo Da Vinci

One hour and fifty minutes by train from Milan and I found myself in the heart of its historic center. Dare I say finally, given the times that I have scheduled this trip that I was forced to postpone a number of commitments. I refer not to a hit and run, but a visit as I like, calmly and with time that this city requires. To tell the truth, at the end of my stay, made me listen species that the person from whom I stayed - a native Florentine – I have seen half of what I've visited in a few days. Always the same story, rather, the same mistake… we take too much for granted what we have close. There is, however, also be noted that those who live in this city – that the high tourist movement has a bit distorted – It does not always easy life. Just to say that the Florentine hotelier aforementioned, He told me that just may flees to a small island in South America, to recover the peace and tranquility that now in Florence has become a dream.

Florence, beautiful but overrun

Well, aware that a few days would not be enough to know his immense artistic heritage, provided with the program and map, I started walking to my first stop. Obviously I was keen to book in advance, and fortunately! The risk, in otherwise, It would have been to run into long delays, and often, because of the many reservations, to lose the visit.

  • 1′ Stage: Uffizi

A building in Vasari's work dating back to 1560 which it was originally built to hold the city administration offices. Today the gallery's most visited Italy, forty-five rooms that can accommodate many Renaissance masterpieces exhibited in chronological order. Admire them live is another thing ... the sensations are amplified, and the heart beats faster!

Bacchus (1597-1598) Michelangelo Merisi, said Caravaggio

  • 2'Stage: Piazza del Duomo

To reach the heart of Florence means being in the presence of a white beauty complex that proud and catches the eye. I mean the nineteenth century facade of Santa Maria del Fiore, that, along with Brunelleschi's Dome (1434) and Giotto's Campanile (1337), creates a truly magnificent scenery.

The Duomo or Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, It is the third largest Christian church in the world

If you stay a bit 'it disappointed simple and austere inside the Cathedral, certainly the visit to the Baptistery - the oldest building in Florence, where Dante was baptized - will leave you breathless. With head you can admire the rich Byzantine mosaics dating from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. A triumph of beauty!

The Baptistery dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, patron of the city

Guests can visit the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo. Situated in the square at number nine, houses numerous works of art from the cathedral, The Baptistery and Giotto's Campanile. Three floors of treasures that end with the magnificent view enjoyable from La Terrazza Brunelleschi.

  • 3'Stage: Appointment with a Chianina

Go to Florence and not stopping to eat a Scottona Chianina steak does not make sense, at least for me. An ancient race, la Chianina, He is known for its somatic gigantism. Do you think that is the largest cattle breed in the world. That said, Following a suggestion, I went into one of the seats of Trattoria dall'Oste. A Chianineria in Via dei Cerchi was born in the name of Fiorentina steak. Five minutes of cooking on the grill on each side and… Bon Appetite!

Trattoria dall'Oste

  • 4'Stage: Piazza della Signoria

A square of the most beautiful, an outdoor museum and a venue. There are several sculptures that enrich. In particular, in the Loggia dei Lanzi in the side of the square, I was struck by the perfection of Benvenuto Cellini's Perseus. A work in bronze, which was commissioned by Cosimo I de 'Medici by the political significance. Built between 1545 and the 1554, It depicts the greek myth of the hero with Medusa's severed head, but not only ... Looking at the nape of Perseus, it can be seen distinctly a face: It is the author of the self. I leave you the surprise.

  • 6’ Stage: Appointment with a Lampredotto

If there is a representative dish of the Florentine culinary tradition that is the Lampredotto. I am referring to a sandwich to enjoy in one of the many kiosks present in the streets of Florence (lampredottai) stuffed with tripe, or better, con l’abomaso (quarter of the bovine stomach also said lampredotto). A typical preparation to consume informally on a coffee table or walking on foot through the city. I have had the pleasure to taste in a small shop located in front of Palazzo Pitti: “Food Del Chianti”. A lovely little place in which to savor the true taste of Florence including tastings and stories of the area. Yes, because of the limited dimensions promote dialogue and understanding.

  • 7’ Stage: Accademy's Gallery

And here is the David of Michelangelo Buonarroti (1504)! The famous statue in the Accademia Gallery which the artist created in just twenty-seven years from a single block of marble. A work that impresses with its perfection among the most recognized in the world. I am the daughter of a stonemason. Myself, led by my father, I got to work this limestone that smoothes the man's ability and transforms. Well, Perhaps it is for this reason that I was a long enchanted by so much precision and superior beauty.

David di Michelangelo Buonarroti 1504 – marble, height cm. 516,7

  • 8'Stage: Church of the Holy Cross

Holy Cross, a sacred building, but above all a place of great memories. Inside this Gothic church lie three hundred men who have distinguished themselves in the arts and in science. A sort of Pantheon in which to walk with reverence next to tombs of illustrious Italians: Galileo Galilei, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Niccolò Machiavelli, Ugo Foscolo, Gioacchino Rossini, and ... just to name a few.

Holy Cross – 1385

  • 9’ Stage: Appointment with the ribollita

Walking through Florence I got confirmation that the typical traditional cuisine of the restaurants is the host. I must admit to my delight, as my passion for the traditions leads me to choose for the most part this type of local. If you get the right advice, even better! This time I am referring to Trattoria Le Mossacce, in Via del Proconsolo 55. No doubt an eating place where one feels the real Florence, where you do not book, and waiting in case it taste a glass of Chianti. Sitting next to strangers – that would soon not have been more – between the various samples, I am delighted by a good ribollita! Much like that of the board!

La ribollita

  • 10’ Stage: Old Bridge

The oldest bridge in Florence, place at the narrowest point of the Arno. Certainly one of the symbols of this city. The last reconstruction – as a result of the various floods – It dates back to 1345. An inevitable stop to allow visitors access to the many shops of goldsmiths concentrated in this stretch by the Medici, Florentine family that has marked the history of Florence.

Old Bridge

  • 11'Stage: Church of Santa Maria Novella

A church among the most beautiful of Florence, which impresses with its magnificent facade decorated with white and green marble. A building dating back to 1278 which houses many masterpieces, including the large crucifix by Giotto. A curiosity: inside the basilica is visible a line of brass sundial, that, thanks to a hole made in the rosette of the facade, creates the solar ellipse floor which vary according to the months of the year. A sort of astronomical observatory.

Santa Maria Novella

  • 12’ Stage: Appointment with a Crushed Florentine

I love diners as pastries, those historical, where the right atmosphere you can taste typical dishes of local tradition. A gastronomic heritage not to be missed! Well, that's how I met Crushed Florentine, also called crushed greased for the use of lard in the dough. A sweet slow rise to typical carnival orange scent, which actually prepares all year. Really delicious!

Crushed Florentine

Florence is much more ...

Going up to Piazzale Michelangelo I realized. A panoramic terrace on which stands a bronze copy of Michelangelo's David. A place with a stroke of really wonderful eye! One It ended so my holiday… with a pink sunset on a beautiful Florence.

Return means remembering. Aquileia, Palmanova… il Presnitz!

Native call ...

Exactly so, the lure of our origins is a feeling that occasionally feel a bit 'all. Return means remembering, and discover unique places of our beautiful Italy. A historical and artistic wealth that we often underestimate.

I refer, in this case, Two Friuli city that has long wanted to visit: Aquileia and Palmanova.

If Aquileia captivates with its precious and ancient mosaics present the entire floor of its Basilica, Palmanova strikes the perfect star shape. The first archaeological site of the most important of the north of Italy, the second fortified city. Recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage sites, They are located a short distance from each other. A must for those who like me feel the call of their origins, but especially, for history buffs and typicality of the territory. One, because after trying my beautiful route, I recommend the sweet taste of a traditional Friulian: il Presnitz.

Aquileia

Did you happen to stay out of breath before a work of art? To me the last time it happened at the Basilica of Aquileia. The floor of his views, the largest early Christian mosaics in the western world, He has captivated my eye (photo in the header). I would be 760 square meters dating back to the fourth century unearthed by archaeologists between 1909 and the 1912. A human being's magnificence that can be seen walking on long elevated glass walkways.

Palmanova

They have come to Palmanova (Palma in Friulian) in a rainy day. Despite this, the air that I breathed immediately was full of historical references and suggestions. A city-fortress-shaped geometrically perfect star. Nine bastions, seven kilometers thick walls and six linear roads, radiating from the central square hexagon: Piazza Grande. A military architecture founded in 1593 Venetians to defend the borders of the Serenissima from the Turks. Only in 1866, after the Habsburg rule, it became part of the Kingdom of Italy. Walking through its streets, It was not difficult to perceive the calls of an important past, in that 1960, He led the president to proclaim “National Monument”.

Il Presnitz

And once again… country go find tradition. Just to say that once completed my itinerary, I was given a taste break in a typical pastry of the area. That's how I discovered a sweet Friulian – in particular Trieste – that prepares all year: il Presnitz. A roll of puff pastry snail-shaped with inside nuts, hazelnuts, Pine nuts, raisin, rum, honey and various spices. In realtà, I had the impression that the pastry chef who told me his story did not reveal to me all the ingredients… And to, every shop has its malice!

Siena, an ensemble of masterpieces!

Siena opens its heart to you"Siena opens up a bigger heart ' (the door you're going through).

An inscription on the arch outside this ancient Porta Camollia, which gives a sense of welcome to this historic city among the most beautiful in Italy, It offers to those lucky enough to visit. A place to live with the right timing, that allowed me to understand how much wealth of art can focus a city. A knowledge to do a walk in the alleys of the old town – UNESCO heritage – enjoying the beauty of the buildings and craft shops, until you get in her heart-shaped shell: the beautiful Piazza del Campo.

Sit on the floor to admire it is almost a rite, which facilitates the view and that allows you to enjoy its magnificence 360 degrees.

Siena, an ensemble of masterpieces!

I visited walking on foot between his seventeen contrade. historical reality that the 1729 trace a territory and represent a community based on voluntary, with an identity and traditions that unlike elsewhere does not fade, rather, over the years are strengthened. Seventeen democratic, independent institutions with statutes, baptisms and lay with its own church, whose highest representative is the Prior. Around him, supporting, many other charges including the Vicar (Deputy Priore), Chancellor (secretary), the Camerlengo (treasurer), the Rocker (accountant), l’Economo (curator of the heritage), the Archivist (guardian historic), the Corrector (spiritual head of Contrada), and… In short, very serious organization based on solidarity and passion, I knew by listening to tales of the Contrada that guided me to visit the 'Museum Contrada della Civetta'.

Museum Contrada della Civetta

In this regard carry a thought of the great Federico Fellini.

"You have this precious thing in Siena, and it is remarkable how in the Contradas conflict there is your union. The whole world falls apart and you are here with the vividness of these rites and the loyalty of centuries. I think it is the only example in Italy. There is a kind of mysterious cord between you and the people of Siena from all eras. It's nice, very beautiful!”

I will not dwell on the Palio, a race of conduct horses jockeys mercenaries, it's just to centuries-old tradition, warms the atmosphere every year to the point of creating excesses and sometimes accidents, for all beings involved, humans and animals.

Siena, a masterpiece after another ... This time I mean the Ribollita. A typical dish that can be sampled in one of the many historic taverns of the city. A peasant soup made from cabbage, black cabbage, beans, potatoes, tomatoes ... to cook on low fire and to enjoy with stale bread. The whole, obviously, accompanied by a good local red wine glass. One of my Sienese gourmet breaks, which it ended with the taste of a great Moscadello di Montalcino late harvest, and a 'gem liqueur' that I recommend: l 'Elisir di Santa Caterina. An herbal liqueur produced following the dictates of an old recipe of mysterious origins. For some, its production started in the past in a distillery in a convent in Siena, Today continues to care Distillery Deta Barberino Val d'Elsa.

Siena, a city full of legends, Art and history, which again I led me to think about how beautiful Italy!

She looks at Siena,
I always look
from its remote offshore
or that of memory –
as a castaway? –
come deserter?
He gives me meeting
the race
of the hills,
He unleashes the wind in the chest,
intersects with the time –
my sore
that rushes to the sides
from deep childhood
and that of my dead
and the other of all newly
memorable existence ...
We still are
I and she, she and I
just, deserts.
For a more extreme love? Some.

Vacanze condivise.

Arezzo, agosto 2017

Coincidenze, one, continuous coincidences in my life,,it,Even when,,it,after reading an article,,it,I was confronted by a choice of travel,,it,which - coincidentally - brought me back to the subject just read,,it,I speak of sharing,,it,di coliving,,ro,A definition attributed to shared spaces,,it,they are working,,it,active holiday,,it,An experience,,it,to live in community,,it,which has long had in mind to try while safeguarding some of my time for my intimate moments - vital and essential,,it,to think and recover energy,,it. I refer to a community project opened in which the key word is "sharing“.

Ovviamente non sono mancate né le passeggiate nei borghi storici, nor those in nature,,it,My 'shared holiday,,it,An experience of sharing time and knowledge,,it.

Ceciliano

Come di consueto, appena giungo in un luogo, I need to settle exploring and knowing my surroundings,,it,That is how,,it,after a first general glance,,it,together with my companions was walked in the surrounding countryside,,it,Also here,,it,Nevertheless he hits the presence of a widespread plant with bright green leaves,,it,inula viscosa,,en,pleased we found that it is a natural ally of the olive,,it,as it welcomes an insect that has the merit to fight the olive fly,,it. Dopo qualche ricerca, ho scoperto che è un’alleata naturale dell’ulivo, in quanto accoglie favorevolmente un insetto che ha il merito di contrastare la mosca olearia, a parasite among the most damaging for olive growing,,it,In addition to this discovery,,it,we picked a more common plant that has served to impart to our water jugs a balsamic flavor and a delicate fragrance,,it,I refer to,,it,’acetosella,,en,It allowed us to get a great pesto 'by purifying' on pasta,,it,Satisfactions and natural pleasures that have enriched our table,,it,Among the historic villages visited in the first place I will give,,it.

In primo luogo Arezzo.

A poca distanza Anghiari, un altro bellissimo borgo medievale, one of the most beautiful in Italy,,it,who kidnapped me literally capturing my attention,,it,Just in case you were around here I recommend you visit,,it,Walking through its streets and admiring the entrances of the houses,,it,you will be surrounded by a unique atmosphere that gives a sense of the holiday as I understand it,,it,Collections of herbs,,it,visits to villages but also opportunities for discussion and knowledge on issues related to the environment and agriculture,,it,between the cool walls of the house,,it,I had the pleasure of meeting,,it. Una comunità in cui i membri sentono di appartenere, vivendo in armonia con la natura, sostenendosi a vicenda, and sharing common resources,,it,Together with my fellow travelers, I visited the one located at,,it,A village once abandoned by the exodus of its inhabitants to the city,,it,that a group of people took steps to restructure following the principles of ecological design,,it,Ecological communicator resident in one of the units of Upacchi for over fifteen years,,it,We knew this sustainable center associated to,,it,Italian Network of Ecological Villages - BANKS,,it,I stop here,,it.

Come and visit Abruzzo!” Una terra in cui – come mi ha sottolineato un amico –  you can ski watching the sea,,it,A weighted path that introduced me to the potential of a region that has everything it takes to recover,,it,Considerations I did after listening to those who are prepared for this task,,it,seaside town that owes its name to the lush Mediterranean,,it,typical dish of Pineto celebrated restaurateurs of the place in the first days of June,,it,a man who defends with tenacity identity of the area,,it,The vocché 'platform of peace if ninzà hunt,,co,City overlooking the sea from the ancient atmospheres and modern,,it,from major roads and the many elegant shops,,it,Its main symbol is the sculptural work,,it. It’ necessary that all tour operators are more cohesive and responsive in recognizing the events organized by local tourist boards,,it,for an education and an ever more in line with the times,,it,Considerations that I did and after listening to those who are prepared for this task,,it,either from direct experience,,it,that said,,it,I will keep my commitment to giving some travel ideas and taste that I hope can be useful for a holiday in Abruzzo,,it,land of good taste,,it, per una formazione e un’offerta sempre più in linea con i tempi.

Premesso ciò, manterrò il mio impegno dando alcuni spunti di viaggio e di gusto che spero vi potranno essere utili per una vacanza in Abruzzo, terra dei buoni sapori, of many colors and brave people,,it,Pineto,,en,My vacation started in Pineto,,it,seaside town that owes its name to the lush Mediterranean,,it,Recalled from its pinewood,,it,but also by the many stories originating friends of the place,,it,I spent five days between nature,,it,history and flavors,,it,Blue Flag,,it,It is located in a Marine Protected Area of Abruzzo's Adriatic coast in which to walk four kilometers of golden beach,,it.

Pineto

Ho trovato anche piatti della tradizione marinara come il Brodetto di pesce alla Pinetese, typical dish of Pineto celebrated by local restaurateurs in the first days of June.

Città affacciata sul mare dalle atmosfere antiche e moderne, from the great streets and the numerous and elegant shops. Its main symbol is the sculptural work “La Nave”, una fontana in marmo di Carrara donata al comune di Pescara dall’artista Pietro Cascella.

Weeks are difficult. The events that have rocked the Abruzzo, beautiful region, but tormented by the many disasters of recent times, require serious reflection on the futuAbruzzoro. Climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions, unfortunately still increasing, They are evident for all to see. environmental changes that impact on the territory, on agriculture and food production.

Situations involving all, and which require an ecological mentality that unfortunately it has not yet formed as it should.

Luoghi che rendono unico il nostro paeseVirtues teramane by nature,  for art and history, but also for the many typical food. I think there is really need in Abruzzo.

Mi riferisco a “Virtues teramane”. I still have a taste preserved under glass that a friend returning from a trip has seen fit to give me. Una tipicità composta da moltissime varietà di legumi freschi e secchi, from herbs and vegetables, flavored with mixed pork, aromi e spezie.

A few days ago, talking on the phone with Francesco Santarelli, restaurateur Teramo, I asked for updates on the situation. While waiting for its part one request which echoes many other: "Who can foster tourism. Come and visit Abruzzo!”

Chioggia, Little Venice, romantic city for romantics.

How to define the romantic today?

People who still are moved in front of a sunset, living life with poetry, often he is feeling almost one meter from the ground. Well you, we are the last romantics, che non si arrendono, because our nature impede it.

A few days ago, a Chioggia, I lived this enchanted feelings in front of a sunset among the most beautiful that I remember. Una cittadina lagunare, a piccola Venezia, a romantic city for romantics who live life as if in a dream that hope becomes a reality.

From time, ogni volta che passavo di qui mi dicevo: “Dai, la prossima volta mi fermo e la visito.” Eppure da anni continuavo a rimandare. This 2016 mi ha portato via diversi amici, improvvisamente.

From 1987 Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Umanità

Chioggia, anticamente chiamata Clodia, It is an art city in the province of Venice. Si accede principalmente attraverso il Pontelungo, passageway that connects it to the mainland dates back to 1757.

Destination of artists

An ideal place for painting "en plein air". Here they found inspiration poeti e scrittori del calibro di Carlo Goldoni, Giacomo Casanova, Ugo Foscolo, Gabriele D’Annunzio, Eleonora Duse, Hermann Hesse, Emilio Salgari e molti altri.

Sal clugiae

Torre dell’orologio

A Chioggia, nel Museo della Torre dell’Orologio di Sant’Andrea, It is' the tower clock’ still working oldest in the world (1386). Visitando questo museo verticale, oltre a godere di un’ottima vista, you can learn the history of the city.

I Bossolà di Chioggia

Ho visitato Chioggia pedalando. From time to time I parked my bike near a bridge or a canal, to walk and live as the romantic atmosphere.

San Pellegrino Terme
